Haiti needs our help. While we continue to raise money for Haiti through Radical Generosity, there is still more we can do. Pray. We will be posting World Vision’s daily prayer needs for Haiti right here and ask that you do three things:

1. Pray according to the daily prayer need each day.
2. Check back here every day for updated needs.
3. Share your prayers for Haiti using the comments form below.

Saturday, February 13th
As the rainy season approaches, poor weather highlights an urgent need for secure shelter for families. Pray that homes will begin to be rebuilt. Pray that communal areas of shelter will be provided. Pray for protection from the fast approaching rainy season.

“It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.” Isaiah 4:6

Friday, February 12th
The children of Haiti are bearing a heavy weight from the devastation in their country. Families, teachers and officials could create forums where children can share their concerns and learn about their rights. Pray that communities will foster this and that leaders will listen to children’s needs and work with them towards developing solutions.

“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.” Mark 9:37

Thursday, February 11th
Many families have lost their jobs, small businesses, and other means of income because of the earthquake. Pray for struggling families. Pray that they may find and develop new sources of income to provide for their children.

“You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance. Your people settled in it, and from your bounty, O God, you provided for the poor.” Psalm 68:9-10

Wednesday, February 10th
The streets in Haiti are increasingly unsafe places for children to be, yet without schools and homes, many have no safe places to take refuge. Pray for homeless children to find temporary shelter and for homes to be re-established.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

Tuesday, February 9th
Disasters make children particularly vulnerable to bacterial and respiratory infections. Many will also require ongoing health services to recover from injuries. Pray for medical supplies and health care to reach these children.

“The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.” Psalm 41:3

Monday, February 8th
Many children in Haiti were already malnourished before the earthquake. The impact of further malnutrition, especially on children under age 2, can do permanent damage to their physical and brain development. Pray that deliveries of food and water reach children, that secure distribution channels be established for the ongoing relief effort, and for sustainable clean water and agriculture projects to flourish.

“Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land
and not surrender him to the desire of his foes. The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.” Psalm 41:1-3

Sunday, February 7th
Many pregnant women are not able to deliver their children in local hospitals because of building damage and overcrowding from quake-related injuries. Pray that maternity kits would make it into every community as soon as possible. Pray for the health of mother and baby during these unforeseen changes in delivery. Pray that the joy of birth – the joy of new life – would radiate throughout the lives of those in Haiti.

“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.” John 16:21

Saturday, February 6th
While access to food and supplies is improving, shelter remains an urgent need. Pray for the quick and stable rebuilding of homes, schools, churches, and office buildings. Pray that shelter from the heat, sun, and storms would soon be made possible. In the meantime, pray for rest, peace, and safety in the makeshift places that many people are raising their families and resting their heads.

“My heart is in anguish within me;
the terrors of death assail me. Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me. I said, ‘Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest – I would flee far away
and stay in the desert;
Selah. I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.’” Psalm 55:4-8

Friday, February 5th
The schools that were unaffected by the earthquake reopened on Monday. Rebuilding Haiti’s education system remains a long-term priority. Pray for the students as they return to the classroom to learn even though life at home is still challenging. Pray for the teachers that they would be able to teach the children with the limited resources available to them at this time.

“For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Proverbs 2:6

Thursday, February 4th
More than 480,000 people have left Port-au-Prince. Many of these individuals and families are staying with other families in surrounding areas. The support system and aid in these outlying areas is being stretched extremely thin. Pray for the provision of basic needs for everyone in these communities. Pray for enough food, water, and shelter. Continue to pray for safety.

“I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor will I satisfy with food.“ Psalm 132:15

Wednesday, February 3rd
World Vision has declared February as a month of prayer for Haiti’s children. World Vision’s Steve Haas recently asked for help, “We are especially concerned about children’s needs and vulnerabilities in this disaster. We know it is going to be a marathon – and not a sprint – to help them and their families recover and rebuild their lives.” Pray for the endurance to continue in this marathon. Pray for provision, strength, hope, and love for these children.

“May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us — yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:16-17

Tuesday, February 2nd
Yesterday began a two-week food distribution project to more than 1.6 million people. Many of these people are living in volatile areas that have received very little aid. Pray for the continued unity of organizations and government. Pray for safety at the distribution sites. Pray for continued strength and hope for these families. Pray that “the least of these” will receive the aid so desperately needed.

“The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the LORD will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.” Isaiah 41:17

Monday, February 1st
This weekend, we sang “Mighty to Save,” and the words of the first verse jumped out and spoke to many of us in light of Haiti, “Everyone needs compassion, Love that’s never failing; Let mercy fall on me.” Danny MacPhail, worship leader, shared a prayer with us and that is what we bring before you today. Everyone needs compassion. May compassion fall upon the people of Haiti right now, and may they know that this compassion and mercy is from our Lord and Savior.

“Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10

Sunday, January 31st
The earthquake in Haiti has left hundreds, if not thousands, of children homeless and orphaned. Pray for these children. Pray that their immediate needs for food, water, and shelter will be met. Pray that homes or orphanages will be opened to them soon.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27

Saturday, January 30th
It’s been 18 days since the earthquake hit Haiti. People are still awaiting food and water; others await medical treatment and life-saving surgery. It’s easy for us to forget about everything going on in Haiti because it isn’t in the forefront of the news anymore. May we continue to pray for Haiti. Pray for the people who must live with this reality for a long time to come. Pray for strength, faith, and hope that conditions will improve. Pray for the endurance to press on. Pray for comfort.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-7

Friday, January 29th
The continuous distribution of emergency food and relief supplies brings with it “early signs of normalcy.” Along with these resources, several aid groups are beginning to solidify relief plans and long-term rebuilding goals. Pray for the continued joint efforts of relief organizations in Haiti. Pray for solidarity within the city and the surrounding areas. Pray for stability within the government. Pray for unity as Haiti begins to take the initial steps to rebuild from the rubble that is now their home.

“They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.” Isaiah 61:4

Thursday, January 28th
As the people of this already poor country continue to recount and relive the moments of the past few weeks, they bring with them the reality that this tragedy will continue to affect the people of Haiti for months and years to come. As they begin to process the unforeseen difficulties of day-to-day life, pray for the provision of spiritual, physical, and emotional needs for the people of Haiti. Pray for joy in the midst of sorrow and loss. Pray for restoration and hope.

“I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.”
Isaiah 31:13b

Wednesday, January 27th
Transport delays are clearing, but challenges still remain at the distribution sites. Due to Port-au-Prince being an urban area, camps are spread out all over the city making it difficult to maintain a safe environment for the families in the camps and even harder to deliver relief goods in a timely manner. Pray for the safety of the families and individuals who have made makeshift homes on open plots of land around the city. Pray that relief goods will be put into their hands in a safe and timely manner. Pray for strength and patience for those bringing aid and those receiving it.

“I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”
Psalm 4:8

Tuesday, January 26th
Thousands of people have been fleeing Port-au-Prince and entering into the Dominican Republic. This is causing overcrowding in local hospitals. Pray for peaceful relations between the Haitian and Dominican governments. Pray that the overcrowding issues can be quickly resolved. Pray for quick treatments and speedy recoveries.

“The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.”
Psalm 29:10-11

Monday, January 25th
Pray for the spiritual wellbeing of those affected by the earthquake. Pray that the people of Haiti will feel, hear, and embrace the presence of God in their lives as they begin to reflect and rebuild.

“I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.”
Psalm 140:12

Sunday, January 24th
One Haitian man made a very specific request: “Pray for us so that God will remember us. Our needs are getting bigger. We need everything.”

“But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; LORD, do not delay.”
Psalm 70:4-5

Saturday, January 23rd
Many lives were lost in the earthquake – children, mothers, fathers, grandparents, brothers, and sisters. Pray for those mourning these losses. Pray for strength as they care for those still with them.

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”
Romans 12:15

Friday, January 22nd
The first responders have been in Haiti for 10 days now. Their work is intense and weighs heavy on their hearts. Pray for their strength and continued success is assisting those in need.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
Isaiah 40:29

Thursday, January 21st
A 5.9 magnitude aftershock hit Haiti yesterday morning bringing with it more fear and chaos. Pray for peace amidst the chaos, safety through the tremors, and strength for those still awaiting rescue.

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap.”
Psalm 113:6

Wednesday, January 20th
There are countless numbers of injuries from the earthquake. World Vision teams are working tirelessly in makeshift hospital conditions to meet the needs. Please pray for strength and clarity for the hospital staff. Pray for an ease of pain and suffering for those waiting to be seen by the doctors.

“For the LORD comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.”
Isaiah 49:13

“Blessed are those who are kind to the needy.”
Proverbs 14:21

Tuesday, January 19th
Food and clean water were already an issue for many in Haiti. The need multiplied overnight due to the earthquake. Please pray for those who are dehydrated and hungry. Pray that food and clean water will reach them soon.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?”

The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Matthew 25:35-40

Monday, January 18th
Hundreds of thousands of people in Haiti are now homeless due to the 7.0 earthquake. Pray for the safety and wellbeing of those sleeping on the streets, in fields, and amongst the rubble.

“Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.”
– Isaiah 1:17

Sunday, January 17th
Because the Haiti earthquake happened during school hours, many children are separated from their parents. Please pray that children are reunited with their parents quickly and safely.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.”
– James 1:27
