Become a Reading Partner!

Teach a child to read and change a life! Many of us know how important literacy is to a young person’s future, yet the statistics on reading are dire. In California, 88% of fourth graders from low-income communities are reading below grade level. This puts these kids on the fast track to economic hardships, dropping out or ending up in prison. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Our first two information nights with the organization “Reading Partners” was a huge success! More than 300 people attended and there are another 400 eager to get involved. So, we’ll be hosting another information night in June. Check the “Events” section of the website at the end of the month for the next meeting. In the meantime, here’s what you might need to know…

Tutoring sessions:
- One-on-one with a child behind in reading
- 45 minute sessions, once or twice a week
- Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-5:00pm
- Starting in the fall

Tutoring Requirements:
- Must be 14 years of age or older
- Commitment: Once per week for at least one semester (16 weeks)

Tutoring currently takes place on the campuses of 6 local schools:
- North Highlands – FC Joyce School
- Sacramento (Pocket) – Caroline Wenzel School
- Sacramento (Curtis Park) – Bret Harte SchooL
- Sacramento (Arden Arcade) – Thomas Edison School
- Citrus Heights – Skycrest School
- Rancho Cordova – Williamson School
