Well now, THAT was an experience! You know what-preparing for the video shoot made me think. I had to think about where I have been, where I am now and how I got here. I did a lot of thinking. I did a lot of thinking about how great out God is and how he uses other people to change our lives. I did a lot of thinking about how I had to persevere and DO MY PART to best of my ability in order to grow and have healing changes. I think that there is a pervasive and pernicious “gang” problem in the church and life in general. Too many people are angry and causing problems for themselves and others because they think they got a raw deal. These gang members live in the “hood” complaining about everything, blaming everyone else and talking about getting respect and taking down people who don’t give it. Unfortunately the “hood” they live in is the VICTIM “hood” and I used to live there. While I wasn’t roaming the streets doing damage and telling everyone how I was done wrong, I lived in my house on “Poor Me Lane” and adhered to the VICTIM”hood” gang motto of “Everyone OWES me and SOMEBODY’S gotta pay!” It wasn’t until I came to CR and had to face the truth about myself, get out of my denial and accept responsibility for my part of my problems that I knew that there was another place to live. Because I WANTED it and I didn’t give up even when things got scary and I failed miserably, I have changed my address and my attitude. I have new places to stay (RENT FREE!) at new addresses. I have a place on Recovery Road, another on Gratitude Circle, I stop by Mercy Court frequently, and I invite others to check out my place on Give-It-A Way. All those addresses are in a different “hood” called the FATHER”hood” and people living there wear their “hoodies” of righteousness through Jesus Christ that covers EVERYTHING. Maybe everyone is born into the wrong “hood” and it is all they know. But how will they know about the FATHER”hood” unless someone not only tells them about it but invites them in? The CR video may be first step in letting people know that a healing change of address is possible. And there are safe supportive people who will help them sort out the garbage in their garage that needs to be gotten rid of and will help them pack up the good stuff and move them into their new home. In the old “hood” everyone was looking out for themselves. In the new “hood” everyone is looking out for each other! Our version of “Neighborhood Watch” is “Brotherhood Watch” and “Sisterhood Watch” and we try to live as openly as possible so that we can see and respond to each other’s needs and struggles in order to support and build each other up. And we have parties where we share our growth, healing and victories. We have to promote the FATHER”hood”, a healing community with a place for everyone. I’m Alan, a grateful believer in Jesus Christ and I approve of this message.

Be transformed and renewed as you Celebrate Recovery at Bayside this summer. We meet every Friday night throughout the year, and summertime is no exception! Start your Friday night with a $5 dinner and connect with old friends or meet some new ones. Be encouraged and transformed in our large group session, then break into small groups for discussion and support. Finish out the night with dessert, coffee, and more chances to connect. Pastor Ray Johnston believes, “The mark of a church that honors God is this: lives are changing, lives are being transformed, and people are finding hope. I don’t know any ministry in any church, including ours, that is having more impact on transforming people’s lives than Celebrate Recovery—which is why we’re glad you’re here!”

I’ve seen firsthand the transformation in many of my members since our church did the Life’s Healing Choices program. It’s amazing how God takes our problems and turns them into trophies of grace. When I weighed the pros and cons of launching Life’s Healing Choices, it was a no-brainer.

I want to thank all of you for your support in 2009 just by being a part of our ministry. I continue to be blessed as I hear from many on how God has been at work, changing your lives and letting Him become the master of your future! I pray in 2010 that you will be encouraged and stay connected to CR as we travel down our recovery roads.

This Friday night (Jan. 8th) we have as our guest speaker Michael Baggett who just happens to be our singles pastor and great friend and supporter of CR! As a matter of fact it was Michael who approached me about the idea of giving CR another try back in June 2005. I am so grateful for his ongoing support and encouraging words to continue to stay focused on Gods plan for our ministry at Bayside Church.

Gods love and blessings in 2010!

Our Christmas celebration was absolutely a blessing to all who attended. We had around 50 adults and a dozen children to celebrate our Lords birthday, as a matter of fact we had a couple from Orange County who found out we were meeting on Christmas day, and shared how delighted they were that we were still meeting. Debi prepared us an awesome dinner, Gary and Melissa lead us in a wonderful time of worship and then we blessed each other as we shared personal stories of God’s mercy and grace during this past year. How wonderful it is to serve God in this amazing ministry. We finished the evening watching “Polar Express” on the Big Screen. Thanks to all that help make this Christmas very special to all who attended.

Our next session of Life Hurts God Heals starts on Monday January 25th and runs thru May 10th. We held our graduation party for those who just finished this last session. There were 30 students who finished the class and many wanting to return to continue working on their character defects so they can be free to accomplish all God has for them.

I am so blessed to be part of this amazing ministry that gave these students new hope and the tools to make the changes in their lives. I also want to thank our Ministry Leader Stacey Pittman our adult, student and intern leader’s for their commitment to this ministry, for serving God to serve our youth……..In Christ Love, Jeff
