Core Values
B.A.Y.S.I.D.E.
BIBLICALLY BASED
We believe that practical, relevant teaching is the catalyst for transformation in individuals’ lives. Scripture is inspired by God, completely accurate and our authority regarding Christian beliefs and the guide for Christian living.
ATMOSPHERE OF ACCEPTANCE
We believe all people matter to God and ought to matter to the church. We want everyone to experience God’s grace and love.
YOUTH MINISTRY
We believe that ministries to children and teenagers should be given high priority. We are committed to making Bayside a center for reaching, encouraging and developing the youth of our area.
SMALL GROUPS
We believe that Christian growth, life-change and pastoral care happen best in small groups. We consider it vital that everyone participate in a small-group Bible study.
INSPIRING WORSHIP
We look for God’s love in our lives as the evidence that we have been truly worshiping Him. We celebrate together with great music, teaching and prayer.
DISCIPLESHIP
We believe that full devotion to Christ and His cause is normal for every believer.
EQUIPPING LEADERS
We believe that enabling people to discover and develop their gifts is God’s strategy for changing the world!

Dave Shotwell
I began attending Bayside when the church was still meeting at Eureka Elementary School and membership totaled less than 300! I’ve served as a volunteer for Bayside’s Junior High Ministry, a Small Group Leader and a member of the Leadership Team and related committees. I became a Christian and was Baptized in 1991.
A career banker, I am an executive vice-president with a regional financial institution responsible for credit administration for the State of California. I studied economics at the University of Washington and also graduated from Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington and the UC Davis Executive Program.
I was widowed in 2006 after a twenty-five year marriage. Thereafter, God answered my prayers and blessed me by bringing Lisa Lauritzen Ditora and her fourteen year old son Derek into my life. Lisa and I were married in 2009 and we attend Bayside together and live in Granite Bay. My adult children Christopher and Sarah, aged twenty-six and twenty-five, both graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and now live in Seattle, Washington.

Having been a Christian for most of my life, my journey to become a follower of Christ has really gained momentum over the past five years. Enduring various trials as a business owner, God has been teaching me what it means to focus my attention on His word rather than on my circumstances. I am married to my best friend Carol, who for the past 16 years has inspired me to dig deeper into my faith than I could have on my own. We are blessed with a blended family consisting of three beautiful daughters, a son, daughter-in-law, son-in-law and 3 grandsons. We have attended Bayside since 1996 and have led a small group for the past 7 years, have served together on the small groups ministry advisory team, the Bayside capital campaign for the construction of the church campus, and have served as small group leaders for the Jr. High ministry. I also have the pleasure of serving on the Board of Trustees for the Personal Finance Employee Education Foundation, which is dedicated to bringing financial literacy to the American workplace.

My spiritual journey: I was raised in a Christian, but non-church going home. I became a Christian on June 14, 1984 at a Young Life Camp. I ran the Junior High program at that church as well. Moved to Sacramento in 1991 and started attending Sunriver Church in Gold River. Moved to Granite Bay in 1996 and started attending Bayside.
At Bayside I have been involved in small groups, Men’s Ministry, Club Knights/Club 56, Bayside Adventure Sports, served on the Bayside Board since 2007. I have actively involved in a Friday morning men’s group since 2001. Currently serve as Treasurer on the board and serve on the Financial Oversight Committee.

Heather Stewart
I met Jesus Christ at Vacation Bible School at Twin Lakes Church in Aptos, California when I was just five years old. During high school, I got to know Him a lot better when I spent a year as a foreign exchange student and read the Bible cover to cover – it was the only book I had in English. I fell in love with the Word and the rest, as they say, is history.
I attended Bayside’s very first Easter service at Greenhills and have had opportunities to serve in many areas including children’s ministry, high school ministry, Breakaway, Bayside’s homeschool network, women’s retreat and women’s Bible studies, small groups, and a few other things I’ve forgotten along the way. It has also been my privilege to have served on the Bayside Leadership Team since 2005.
Proving that “every good and perfect gift is from above,” I met and married my husband John Stewart at our church in Santa Cruz in 1992. After graduating from Stanford University in 1995 with a communications degree, I worked alongside my husband at Premier Homes for a short time before heading home to care for the first of four children we have been blessed with. Wil, Grace, Andrew and Paul are my children as well as my students; we started the adventure of home education in 2005.
Jud Boies
My family and I have been attending Bayside since 1997 and I have served as a Road Warrior, Greeter, Small Group leader and member of the Leadership Team. I accepted Christ and was Baptized when I was 16 yet like many didn’t become “sold out for Christ” until several years later.
I have been in corporate leadership for over 25 years as the CEO or Managing Partner of five different companies and am currently the President of the Thriving Workplace consulting firm. The firm helps individuals, churches and organizations become the best at what they do, often reaching number one in their space through a very specific 3-step program.
I live in Loomis with my wife Mary of 28 years and we have 19 year old identical twin daughters, Paige and Kelly, currently attending Westmont College in Santa Barbara.
I earned a B.A. in business and sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master’s Degree from Western Seminary and I hold a Bi-Vocational Pastor’s license from the Evangelical Covenant Church.
