Let’s face it, sometimes LIFE HURTS and we get caught up in habits that are hard to break. If you are dealing with pain (who isn’t?) including: addictions, eating disorders, abuse, pornography, drinking, cutting, etc., then Life Hurts God Heals is for you.   Hundreds of students have gone through this and many lives were changed.  Come check this out.

What is Life Hurts God Heals?

Life Hurts God Heals (LHGH) is specifically for students 7th thru 12th grades who have experienced pain or addiction including: drinking, cutting, pornography, eating disorders, troubled family dynamics, etc.

If you are familiar with 12-step programs (i.e., Alcohol Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, etc) then you understand the basic structure for Life Hurts God Heals. However, Life Hurts God Heals is an 8-step group targeted specifically for students in middle school through college age, and is based on the beatitudes from the Bible. This curriculum provides lifelong tools for students dealing with unresolved hurt and pain. It was written by John Baker, Doug Fields and Megan Hutchinson as a result of seeing the unmet pain of students in their youth ministry at Saddleback Church. After several successful sessions here at Bayside, we’ve seen many of our children gain the tools and freedom from this experience.

The 8-steps covered in Life Hurts God Heals that could CHANGE YOUR LIFE:

Step 1: Get help. I admit that I am powerless and that I need help.

Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor (Matthew 5:3).

Step 2: Open your heart. I now know that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He is the only One who has the power to heal my pain.

Happy are those who mourn. God will comfort them (Matthew 5:4).

Step 3: Depend on Christ. I realize I need to turn my life over to Christ. I need to depend on Him in all areas of my life, including all that I say, think, and do.

Happy are the humble (Matthew 5:5).

Step 4: Hear and speak. I agree to evaluate my life and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone whom I trust.

Happy are the pure in heart (Matthew 5:8).

Step 5: Embrace God’s way. I will stop doing things my way and put my life on the path that leads toward God’s way.

Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires (Matthew 5:6).

Step 6: Ask for forgiveness. I will offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me, and I will ask for forgiveness for any wrong I’ve done to others.

Happy are the merciful. Happy are the peacemakers (Matthew 5:7,9).

Step 7: Live for God. I will set aside some time for God each day to examine my life, read my Bible, and pray so that I have the power to live God’s way.

Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor (Matthew 5:3).

Step 8: Share with others. I will take the message that God heals to others in need and share it by my words and actions.

Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires (Matthew 5:10).

It’s amazing how God chooses to use His creation to bring hope and restoration. Our team of 14 was changed forever by this 16-day trip, myself included. I worked in a gym with pimps, gangsters, and other young men in Svay Pak with the hopes of developing relationships and revealing an alternative way of life. My main mission was to use love as a weapon, because none of the other methods were working. The goal was simple – bring hope and pride. Hope that there is a God in control. Hope that Svay Pak doesn’t have to be in the state it is. And pride – pride in themselves as creations of God.

By day 3, I saw transformation taking place. Young men were encouraging each other and believing in themselves – some hearing encouragement for the first time and others believing in themselves for the first time…EVER. God is working in Cambodia – in a tiny village with pimps, slaved children and injustice running rapid. A Light is shinning bright! Lives are being changed and a community is becoming strong and proud again. Our “team” cheer echoes in my mind as I reflect on everything God has done and continues to do. ”Svay Pak, Svay Pak, Svay Pak, Svay Pak….Svay Pak Heeeeeeeeey!!!” With their hands raised, the new champions of Svay Pak are united, strong and proud. They are new creations of God; ready to fight for what is rightfully God’s! Amen.

M6 – Men of God

M6 is a monthly gathering of Christian men who meet to share a meal, worship, and hear a life-story.  Everyone has a story to tell.  Each month you will hear about the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.  These are everyday men who have decided to make a radical change in their life and live for Jesus.

What to expect at M6?  Dinner in someone’s back yard, guys hanging around talking, worship, someone telling their story of how God got a hold of their life, and men serving one another.  Cost?  Unbelievably…it’s free!  Yep, there’s a group of guys who think that you are worth them buying you dinner and having a great time.  Just show up, say thanks, and enjoy a great evening.

Before we kick-off Wednesday nights for the year we will be spending the next couple weeks with those students who consider themselves a part of Riptide and want to see God use them. We will be taking the time to “warm up” for this year by spending time in the word, in worship and in prayer.

On 19 May 1967, while on his 81st combat mission over North Vietnam, Eugene “Red” McDaniel was shot down while flying his A-6 Intruder aircraft.  He was listed as “missing in action” until 1970, when the Hanoi government acknowledged that he was being held prisoner.  A POW for more that six years, McDaniel was released 4 March 1973, after the Vietnam cease-fire.

Red McDaniel was one of the most brutally tortured prisoners of the Vietnam War.  This torture resulted from his active role in camp communications during an organized escape attempt by his fellow prisoners.  He is the author of Scars and Stripes, a book telling about his six years in a communist prison.

When Red McDaniel returned home from Vietnam, he was awarded the Navy’s highest award for bravery, the Navy Cross.  Among his other military decorations are two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit with Combat “V”,   the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Bronze Stars with Combat “V”, and two Purple Hearts for wounds received at the hands of the North Vietnamese torturers.

Captain McDaniel resumed active duty and served as Commanding Officer of  USS Niagara Falls and Commanding Officer of the aircraft carrier USS Lexington.  Under his command, Lexington experienced no serious accidents while accomplishing more than 20,000 carrier landings.

Red McDaniel served as Director of Navy/Marine Corps Liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1981.  In this capacity, Captain McDaniel worked daily with Congress on national defense planning and provided legislators with information vital to the strategic development of Navy forces throughout the world.  He retired from the Navy in 1982.

Today, Captain “Red” McDaniel is President of the American Defense Institute, a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.   He founded ADI to increase public awareness of the need for a strong national defense.

This 13-week series provides excellent teaching and group discussions lead by trained facilitators. We use a DVD-based curriculum that has been developed by a national Christian organization. Each week there is a lesson on a particular subject followed by a small group discussion. Topics include but are not limited to:

• Facing anger
• Overcoming depression/loneliness
• Forgiveness
• Parenting and financial tips
• New relationships
• Growing closer to God and more.

We are blessed this year to welcome Libby Vincent as our special guest speaker.  As a pastor who teaches theology at Fuller Seminary, Libby is passionate about integrating the truths of the Christian faith with the realities of daily life. One of her strongest desires is to see the lives of women truly changed by the message of God’s love and grace. Through the journey of having children with special needs, Libby is learning the importance of trusting God in the present moment and inviting Him into every area of her life. The Director of Child Evangelism will be doing a free seminar for our youth to teach them how to share the Gospel to anybody. There will be other related content taught as well but this is a great hands on time for evangelism.

Those who choose to go will then apply what they learned on Aug 14 at the Nevada Fair in Grass Valley.
A booth will be set up for children to come in and learn the Gospel bracelet at the fair.

I have received many calls from folks who are looking for some help with back to schools supplies all ready.  Last year Club 56 youth collected 86 backpacks and a ton of supplies.  We where able to provide support to single parents, financially challenged families, and homeless kids.  

Parents please encourage your youth to help provide a backpack with supplies to someone in need.  They can go with you to purchase or they can get creative and raise the money themselves and then shop.  All youth are encouraged to write a note, put in a favorite verse, and or draw a picture to put in the back pack they donate.

If you know a family that is in need of school supplies send them my way so they can get on the list.  Shop day is August 15^th 2:30 in the Club 56 room; however earlier appointments are available.

Turn in all back packs and supplies to the Club 56 room, at a Pool Daze or any Club 56 event now until August 15^th.

Club 56 DADDY DAUGHTER TRIP TO FRANCIS LAKE- AUG 20-22

Every 2 years the daddy –daughter trip takes place to build stronger relationships and grow closer to God.
Is fun to hear girls talk about the weekend 7 years after they went and I believe the talks and events are great emotional deposits that dads will make with their daughters. The lake events, pool Olympics, soccer match and funky competition we do are fun but the fireside chats, sharing and duet tent moments are the best moments.

I believe there are some God moments ahead for those who come so call another dad and sign up as there is limited space for 90. There are 6 to a site with water hookups, restrooms and fire pit.

What is Drenched?

Drenched is our summer Wednesday night alternative to small groups.  We meet at a different house each week, swim in the pool for an hour or so, and then spend some time together in the Word.  This year we’re going to be going through the story of some of the prophets of the Bible.  Last year was such a huge hit with Drenched, this was one of the only non-negotiables of the summer.  Drenched is the number one best way for our Jr. High students to get connected in Riptide. Be sure to bring and towel and Bible. And girls, remember modest one-pieces only.
